Jim Johnstone

Jim Johnstone, P.E., C.S.P.
President, Manager of Technical Services, and Principal, Contek

Jim Johnstone is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas and California. He holds a “Certified Safety Professional” certificate from BCSP and is recognized by the State of California as a “Registered Environmental Assessor.”

Jim has over 25 years of industry experience in engineering, operations and EH&S at both domestic and international locations. He has extensive experience leading innovative programs to: improve performance, reduce risk, assure regulatory compliance, and manage costs. Areas of expertise include: management systems development, EHS program implementation, permitting, field operations, air issues, quantification of potential liabilities, regulatory assurance programs, remediation, public affairs and petroleum engineering. Jim holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University.

 
Georges Michaud

Georges Michaud, B.Sc., MBA, CIH
CEO, Manager of Business Operations, and Principal, Contek

Georges Michaud has over 25 years of experience in technical and managerial roles within diverse industries, including: telecommunications, semiconductors, petroleum, manufacturing, mining and consulting at both domestic and international levels. Georges has directed plant and corporate level functions such as EHS, emergency preparedness, security and business ethics. He has managed projects like: implementing ISO 14001 standard practices, auditing, designing for environment, applying energy efficiency programs, benchmarking and competitive analysis, and global regulatory tracking.

Georges has expertise in business development and operations, as well as financial and strategic planning. He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (ABIH), and holds an MBA from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, a Bachelor of Science degree (Biology) from the University of Ottawa in Canada, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from McMaster University in Canada.

Jay Bailey, Project Manager and Senior Manager of Technical Services

Jay has over 25 years of experience in the oil & gas industry, operations, reservoir and EHS; and consulting; global; onshore/offshore. He has expertise in operations and reservoir engineering; JV management; EHS and regulatory compliance, HSE auditing; emergency preparedness planning and training; environmental and social impact assessments; international level government-industry group consulting. He holds a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering, from Mississippi State University.

Jeffrey Bass, Technical Consultant

Jeff has over 30 years of experience in education and the service industry. He has worked for most of his career as an instructor, lecturer and athletic trainer, within both the high school and University levels. He has also worked in human resources, drug testing administration and safety management in the oil and gas service industry. He holds a M.S. (Sports Administration) and a B.S. (Phys. Ed. and Health) from Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

Timothy Blackburn, Engineering Technician

Tim has 15 years of experience in various industries, including oil & gas and insurance services. He has expertise with CAD, drafting, imaging, and documentation management. He has an Associate degree, Drafting & Design, Texas State Technical College, Amarillo, TX.

Mike Brock, Project Manager

Mike has over 25 years of experience in the oil and gas production operations, working as Field Operations Supervisor, Team Leader, and Facility and production Engineer. He has specialized knowledge of artificial lift, primary, secondary and tertiary recovery, in the Permian basin, as well as gas measurement. He also has expertise in operations and project management, budget and contractor management, as well as safety and environmental. In his early career, he spent 6 years in the U.S. Air Force as a Lead/Instructor Navigator on the C-141 aircraft. He holds a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech.

Alton Callihan, Project Manager

Alton has over 25 years of experience in oil and gas production operations, including as an Operations Center Manager (OCM) for a major production company in the Permian basin. His expertise lies in production operations management; maintenance, budget, production targets and project management; as well as HS&E standards implementation and management.

Jim Curfew, Senior Technical Consultant

Jim has over 30 years of experience in the in oil & gas industry and in consulting involving production and facilities engineering throughout the U.S. including onshore and offshore as well as Alaska. He specializes in artificial lift; production, facilities and operations engineering, operations safety, failure control, emulsion treating, well servicing, corrosion control, facility design, efficiency improvement, cost control and data management. He holds a B.S., in Mechanical Engineering (Honors) from Texas Tech University, and numerous continuing education programs taken throughout his career.

John Curfew, Technical Consultant

John has over 15 years of work experience in the retail sector, loans and mortgages as well as in the oil and gas industry. In the oil and gas sector, he has been involved with equipment sales and land management. At Contek, he has been mostly focused in gas production site reviews and audits. He has a strong background in customer service, employee training, sales and marketing and safety management.

Joe Dudek, CSP, CQM, CQA, Senior Project Consultant

Joe has over 25 years of experience in manufacturing, oil & gas production services and consulting. He has worked at both domestic and international levels. His expertise includes operations management, training, quality control, safety management, radiation safety, waste management, EHS and Quality auditing. He holds a A.S. in Nuclear Medicine Technology, a B.A. in Business Administration from Northeastern Illinois University. He is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), a Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), and a Certified Quality Manager (CQM).

Dale Fisher, Senior Technical Consultant

Dale has over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He started his career as a field and plant technician and rose to leadership positions in facility process safety and integrity management. He has extensive working knowledge of process hazard analysis (e.g. HAZOP), risk assessment, mechanical integrity management, MOC and HSSE. As well, he has held responsible positions involving quality control, automation, measurement and pipeline integrity management. He holds an A.S. in Civil Technology and an A.S. in Electronics from Lansing Community College in Michigan.

Alex Flores, Technical Consultant, IT Manager

Alex has been with Contek over 2 years involved in oil & gas operations site reviews, SWPPs, SPCC plans, DOT manuals, regulatory compliance and other safety and environmental consulting. He has expertise in safety inspection and auditing, training program development and delivery, chemical and materials handling safety, regulatory compliance and computer science. He holds a B.S. (Occupational Safety), with a Computer Science Minor from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant, OK.

Angel Gonzalez, Drafting Technician

Angel holds an Associate of Applied Science in Computer Design and Drafting from ITT Technical Institute in Arlington, TX. At Contek, he is involved with creating and updating P&IDs, plot plans and PFDs as well as various structural drawings. He works mostly with the PHA team.

Greg Griffin, Technical Consultant

Greg has over 15 years of experience in industry, including retail, manufacturing and distribution. He has experience in sales, customer relations, business and employee management as well as industrial safety, workers compensation, inspection and training. He holds a B.S. (Industrial Safety and Environmental Sciences) from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

Jared Groves, Technical Consultant

Jared joined us in early 2011. He was previously with the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board since 2008. His work involved developing water quality management plans, irrigation pipeline design, and irrigation well evaluation. He previously worked with the Texas Department of Transportation as a summer intern. At Contek, Jared has been involved with Greenhouse Gas quantification, and related software program development, SPCC plans, oil and gas production site reviews, as well as RMP and Siting studies. Jared holds a B.S. in Environmental Engineering from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX. He is an Engineer-In-Training with the Texas Board of Professional Engineers.

Michael Hull, Technical Consultant

Michael graduated from Oklahoma State University (Stillwater) with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in December 2010. Before joining Contek, he worked for a real estate development firm in Plano, involved with environmental Phase I and II site assessments, and regulatory research. He also has experience in civil engineering relating to public works. He has successfully passed his Fundamentals of Engineering examination and will soon be receiving his E.I.T. certification. At Contek, to date, Michael has been involved with production site reviews.

Kim Jackson, Project Manager

Kim has over 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and 10 years of experience as an entrepreneur. He spent a major part of his career in offshore and onshore production and drilling engineering. He's been responsible for completion designs, procedures, field operations, compression, pumping designs, workovers, stimulations, equipment and facilities. He has managed drilling operations, from permitting to overseeing all aspects of engineering and operations. He also founded and managed a successful state-of-the-art Internet-based warranty service company for residential home builders. At Contek, Kim has performed petroleum/facilities engineering work, oil and gas production site reviews and has been a key leader with Process Hazard Analysis (PHA-HAZOP) with many clients. He holds a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering from Mississippi State University.

Jack Johnstone, Senior Project Consultant

Jack has over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, including onshore and offshore operations, domestic and international levels. Throughout his career he has been involved in E&P engineering and management, including reservoir engineering, drilling, maintenance, remediation, logistics operations, field operations management, training, quality management, environmental and safety. He holds a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO.

Michael Leonard, Project Manager and Manager Technical Services

Mike has over 10 years of experience in the automotive industry, residential construction, consulting and oil & gas operations. He has expertise in project management, design engineering, construction management, integrity management (IM), process hazard analysis (PHA), HAZOP, IR Thermography and Optical Gas Imaging, GHG quantification and Excel application. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, MI. He is a Certified Infrared Thermographer Level 1 and a Certified GasFindIR Thermographer.

Margaret Lowe, PE, Senior Project Manager

Margaret has spent the last 16 years of her career with BP/ARCO Permian as a Senior Environmental Engineer. She has been responsible for compliance assurance regarding air, waste, water and natural/cultural resources, covering the states of NM and TX. She has provided environmental and safety expertise to management, as well as production, plant and drilling operations. Margaret has had direct involvement in activities such as HSE training and auditing, database management, SPCC plans, remediation and M&A due diligence reviews. She has been active in regulatory development and interpretation through various industry associations and regulatory agencies. Prior to joining BP, Margaret worked in HSE consulting, and as a Hydrologist with the Texas Water Commission. She started her career with Phillips Petroleum as a Refinery Process Engineer. She holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Trinity University in San Antonio and she is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas.

Andrew Maddox, Technical Consultant

Andrew has over 15 years of experience in industry, including oil and gas equipment supply, independent contractor and retail sales. He has experience in technical service for oil and gas production control valves, sales, marketing, customer relations, business and employee management as well as industrial safety. He studied Communications and Business Administration at the University of Texas Permian Basin, where he is currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering.

Corey McDaniel, Technical Consultant

Corey has been with Contek 3 years involved in oil & gas operations site reviews, SWPPs, SPCC plans, Integrity Management reviews, PSM Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), HAZOP, regulatory compliance and other safety and environmental consulting. He has expertise in safety inspections and auditing, training program development & delivery, chemical and materials handling safety, SWPPs and SPCC plans development, and regulatory compliance. He holds a B.S. (Occupational Safety), from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK.

Lori Madrid, Project Consultant

Lori has over 8 years of experience in oil & gas operations, and consulting. Her expertise includes air dispersion modeling, air permitting, environmental regulatory analysis, environmental impact assessment, CAD, process design, and SPCC plans. She has studied chemical engineering at the University of Texas in Austin.

Jim Meyer, Ph.D., Senior Project Consultant

Jim has over 25 years of experience in the oil & gas industry and in consulting. His expertise involves engineering research development and evaluation, process start-up, data interpretation and computer modeling. He has worked at the domestic level as well as international. He has been an Adjunct Professor of Chemical Engineering at Michigan State University in Lansing, MI. Jim has also led strategic engineering studies using simulation tools e.g. HYSIM, PRO II, PIPEPHASE, AFT Fathom. He has extensive technical expertise in: environmental technologies pertinent to water issues in oil & gas production; technical and economic viability research; offshore platforms water discharge; groundwater flows in fractured systems; drilling mud studies; reservoir engineering, environmental engineering and in bioengineering; and CO2 sequestration. He holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Princeton; a M.S. in Hazardous Waste Management from Southern Methodist University, and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University.

Benoît Michaud, Project Manager

Ben has over 10 years of experience in the construction industry, architecture and design and consulting. He also has experience in oil & gas production operations, integrity management and pipeline mapping. He has expertise in project management, construction management, design, CAD/drafting, and business administration. He holds a B.A. from the University of Texas in Austin.

Greg Milford, C.S.P., R.E.M., Senior Project Manager

Greg has 30 years of experience in oil & gas operations services, both on and offshore, including domestic and international work. He has worked at the business unit and corporate levels. He has been involved in consulting for the past 5 years. He has expertise in safety and environmental management, auditing, development and implementation of compliance and training programs, process safety and integrity; well cementing, completion and stimulation. He also has completed many accident investigations, developed SPCC plans, performed Phase I ESA’s as well as wetlands delineation studies. He holds a B.S. (Physical Sciences) and a B.S. (Industrial Hygiene) from the University of Central Oklahoma. He is a Certified Safety professional (CSP), a Registered Environmental Manager (REM) and a Certified Infrastructure Preparedness Specialist (CIPS).

Shannon Mitchum, CSHO, Project Manager

Shannon has over 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and in the construction, remediation and custom food manufacturing industry and in consulting. Her expertise includes EHS program development, implementation, management and regulatory compliance; EHS auditing and training; PSM, HAZWOPER, HAZCOM, JSA, incident investigation and analysis; Emergency Response Plan development; and litigation consulting. She holds a B.S. in Business Management from LeTourneau University, and is currently completing a MS in Occupational Health, Safety & Environment through Columbia Southern University. She is a CSHO (Oil & Gas, and Petrochemical Industry) and CSHO (General Industry).

Russell Payton, CSP, ARM, Senior Project Manager

Russell Payton, CSP, ARM Russell has over 25 years of experience in corporate safety management and consulting. He has worked in various industrial sectors including light and heavy manufacturing, construction materials/mining, airlines, hospital and food. His expertise includes regulatory compliance with both OSHA and MSHA, with DOT and EPA. Russell has been directly involved with the implementation of safety and risk management systems in Fortune 1000 companies as a consultant. Prior to joining Contek he was Corporate Director of Safety and Health at a billion dollar publicly traded construction materials/mining Company. He has experience in safety engineering, PSM, ergonomics, root cause analysis, training, risk management, workers compensation claims management, electrical safety and job hazard analysis. He is Past President of the South West Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and currently serves as an ASSE Delegate. Russell holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. He is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and an Associate in Risk Management (ARM).

Jason Perrin, Technical Consultant

Jason has over 3 years of experience in the environmental and safety consulting field. He has been involved in air permitting, emission estimating, emission inventories, ground water contamination assessment, as well as developing SPCC plans and completing Phase I environmental site assessments, PSM Siting studies, EPA RMPs, and EHS compliance audits. At Contek, he has also been involved in PHAs/HAZOPs, EHS Audits, and PSM/RMP Audits for Oil & Gas clients. Most of his experience has been in the oil and gas production operations area. He holds a B.S. in Chemistry and Biology and a M.S. in Chemistry from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Steve Perry, CIPS, REM, WSO-CSM, PHR, Senior Technical Consultant

Steve has over 30 years of experience in industry, mostly in oil and gas production. He has held corporate positions with increasing levels of responsibility in safety, industrial hygiene, training, EHS, human resources and operations. Steve worked for various production companies in Texas and Oklahoma as Director of Safety and HR; Director of EHS, VP of Operations and Drilling and VP of Corporate Safety and Training. He holds a BS in Business (Marketing and Finance) from Eastern New Mexico University, in Portales, NM, and a M. Ed. (Industrial Safety) from University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. Steve is a Certified Safety Manager with the World Safety Organization (WSO-CSM), a Registered Environmental Manager (REM), a Certified Infrastructure Preparedness Specialist (CIPS) and a Certified Professional Human Resources Manager (PHR). He also holds numerous other safety certifications such as SafeLand training, Fall Protection, H2S, Overhead Crane and other Crane inspector, Driving Safety, First Aid/CPR, Audiometry, Management of Change, and others.

Bill Price, Project Consultant

Bill has 35 years of experience in oil production and maintenance operations, and has worked as an Production Optimizer for a major producer in the Arkoma area. He has expertise in production operations, integrity management, management of change (MOC), as a “person in charge” for contractors, and in various safety procedures e.g. LOTO, JSAs and the like.

Phil Reid, Senior Project Manager

Phil has over 35 years of experience in oil and gas, sulfur and plastics production operations and maintenance, construction and consulting. He has expertise in oil and& gas production operations, plant operations and management, EHS program development and implementation, PSM and integrity management, environmental, EHS auditing, ISO 14001. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration.

Brandon Ray, Technical Consultant

Brandon has over 10 years of experience in industry, including oil and gas production equipment supply and retail sales. He has experience in technical service for oil and gas production control systems (e.g. PLC, RTU), warehouse management for the oil and gas service industry, industrial sales, marketing, customer relations, business and employee management as well as industrial safety.

Jay Riha, Technical Consultant

Jay has over 23 years of experience in technology/software sales and marketing, as well as financial planning services. He has specific expertise in business development, technical support, strategic planning and sales. Jay holds a B.S. (Industrial Technology) and an MBA (Business Computing Sciences) from Texas A&M University. He also has studied marketing at Northwestern University, Finance at Harvard Business School, Sales at the University of Virginia and he is a licensed investment advisor.

John Rydzak, Technical Consultant

John has over 30 years of experience in industry. He has worked as Safety/Loss Control consultant for major industrial maintenance and insurance companies as well as petroleum refineries. He has been involved in areas such as safety auditing and inspection, training, workers compensation, industrial hygiene, HAZMAT, hot work, confined space entry and developing general safety programs. He has spent 12 years in the electronic and high tech industry as an engineering and production technician where he was involved also in safety and 6 Sigma programs. He holds a B.S. (Industrial Safety) from Texas A&M and has studied semiconductor and electronics manufacturing at Richmond Junior College.

Tim Sampson, Contek Representative in Washington, D.C.

Tim has worked in the public sector for several years, and more recently has spent 25 years with API, a major oil and gas industry trade association in Washington, D.C. His experience with the industry association has involved managing regulatory and legislative response for exploration and production member companies, and developing environmental and safety industry guidelines and best practices, with both onshore and offshore operations. He has expertise in government and public affairs, business development, strategic planning and project and business management. He holds a B.S. (Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering and Physics) from the University of Texas in Arlington. He has completed the U.S. Army Civil Affairs School, and post graduate studies in Management/Public Administration at the University of Texas in Arlington. Tim has also served as a U.S. Army Officer and is a Vietnam Vet.

Nolan Schomer, Technical Consultant

Nolan graduated from Texas A&M (College Station) with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in December 2010. Before joining Contek, he worked for a real estate development firm in Plano, involved with property condition assessment, including safety/security/ADA inspections, real estate analysis and related due diligence pre-purchase activities. He also has experience in surveying, drafting and construction. He obtained his E.I.T. certification in July of this year. At Contek, to date, Nolan has been involved with production site reviews.

Steve Smith, Senior Project Manager

Steve has over 30 years of experience in oil and gas production operations and 4 years in the U.S. Navy. He has expertise in operations management, reservoir and production engineering, plant operations and process safety and integrity management. He also has been involved in due diligence operations and environmental reviews, Phase I ESA’s and accident investigations. He holds a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University.

Alvin Stice, Project Consultant

Alvin has over 15 years in the construction industry and oil and gas production and 5 years in the consulting field. He has expertise in project management, construction cost assessment, construction management, safety, process safety and drafting, integrity management and pipeline mapping. He holds a B.S. in Engineering Technology from West Texas State University in Amarillo.

Courtney Thomas, Technical Consultant

Courtney recently graduated from Texas A&M Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Environmental Geosciences. She has work experience as a supplemental instruction leader at A&M as well as a geology assistant for an E&P company. Courtney also completed a study abroad program where she conducted climate research and related field work in New Zealand. Her senior project at A&M dealt with greenhouse gases (GHG) and specifically CO2 re-injection for enhanced oil recovery.

Joe Thomas, CPA, Chief Financial Officer

Joe holds a BBA from Baylor University and is a CPA. He spent most of his career with ARCO until 1999, in various finance and accounting functions. Since '99, he has worked in finance, accounting and as a CFO in the retail, oil and gas, and non-profit sectors. His primary role at Contek involves managing the financial and accounting parts of our business. Joe also leads other key aspects of our business operations, including the management of our liability insurance process, contracts, employee benefits and office management.

Lisa Upton, Executive Assistant and Office Manager

Lisa has over 10 years of experience in business administration support and office management. She has worked with several small and large consulting firms throughout her career. She has assisted in typical business administration tasks, accounting, inventory control, document quality control, contract management and marketing. Her technical skills include Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, QuickBooks and Access.

Jacky Willis, Project Consultant

Jacky has over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas production operations. His work experience includes gas plant operations, gas measurement, electrical and instrumentation maintenance, analytical lab, PSM, PSIM (Process Safety Integrity Management), project coordination, production maintenance supervision, and gas plant operations supervision.
